About Us

Our History

In 1971 Chan Bechan first joined Old Mutual as a financial advisor.  After achieving a number of “Agent of the Year” awards in the ’70s and ’80s, Chan finally established Chan Bechan Insurance Brokers in 1986. ​The 1990’s saw the introduction of Chan’s son, Adhir Bechan into the leadership of the company; the end of the apartheid regime in South Africa and the transformation of the company into Carlton Brokers, which would allow for expansion into a larger demographic. ​Carlton Brokers earned its name as South Africas Number 1 Brokerage in the mid 2000’s, claiming countless accolades, awards and titles – A legacy with which we live and breathe.

Today, Carlton Brokers is directed by Nehal Bechan, an astute individual who holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning from the University of Stellenbosch and is in pursuit of the prestigious Certified Financial Planner ® designation.
